Buyers & Borrowers

Buying or Hiring a Dress

How are the dresses priced?

Most of the wedding dresses that are listed by our sellers are only worn the once on their wedding day for a few hours, before being carefully cleaned and packaged in storage.
Some brides buy more than one dress due to changed circumstances so some of the dresses are brand new!
The dress owners have now given you the opportunity to wear their designer gown for a fraction of the RRP – so you will have a beautiful dress on your wedding day.

How do I know that the dresses are genuine?

The sellers and lenders have spent a small fortune on each of these dresses and we recommend that they list the dress accurately so that there are no issues when it comes to the purchase/hire.

How do I search for a dress either for sale or hire?

The Search page is located on Only Dream Dresses homepage and allows you to search by size, designer and location to help you find that perfect dress.

Can I search for dresses for sale or hire near me?

Of course you can! We recommend that you start your search in your local area so that way you can arrange with the seller/lender to try on your dress before you purchase.
In the Search page, which is located on the Home page you will be able to search for dresses using your postcode.

How do I make contact with a seller or lender?

We have a message system, which will allow dress owners and potential buyers and borrowers to contact each other. The communication between each party will be saved so that it can be reviewed and used if there is a dispute.

What payment methods are accepted?

We accept payments for your listing via PayPal and either a debit or credit card can be used.
Non-account holders of Paypal can still pay via PayPal’s guest service.

Can I try the dress on?

We encourage for the sellers/lenders to have this option available, however not everyone maybe comfortable in doing so. We would suggest contact the seller/lender and discussing this with them.
If the seller/lender is not in local area, it may be discussed that you would cover the postage costs to have the dress posted to you to try on.

How to purchase a dress for Hire or Sale?

Option 1
Contact the seller/lender in local area.
Arrange for a time to try on the dress.
Purchase the dress either from the seller or purchase through Only Dream Dresses (note if dress is not purchased and posted via our site it will not be covered by PayPal’s buyer protection).

Option 2
Contact the seller/lender.
Discuss in detail the dress’ condition, style and detailing.
If it suits what you are looking for ask the seller/lender if they would allow for the dress to be sent for a try on.
Purchase through PayPal.
The dress is then posted to you to wear by the seller/lender.

Who pays for the shipping?

If you buy a dress through Only Dream Dresses that requires postage we would recommend discussing the cost with the seller directly. We recommend that you also discuss with the seller about paying for a tracking number and postage insurance as well.
If you hire a dress that requires postage, the postage cost for the dress will be included in the hire fee as will as a paid postage bag to return the dress back to the seller.

Who pays for the dry cleaning?

The dress owners are responsible for having the dress cleaned and boxed prior to listing the dress on Only Dream Dresses. This ensures that you receive a dress in its best condition and also ensures that any permanent stains are highlighted prior to your sale or hire.
If you are hiring a dress, you are not responsible for dry cleaning the dress. You just need to put the dress carefully back into its box that it arrived in and send it back to the lender in the prepaid postage bag.
Dresses received via post may need a further steam/press prior to wearing on your special day. This cost will be the responsibility of the lender/buyer.

What if my dress arrives completely different to what is listed in the ad or not at all?

First of all we suggest contacting the seller/lender through our messaging system to discuss the issue and try and resolve the matter. We suggest starting the communication as soon as you receive the dress and recognise the fault.
All purchases are made through PayPal so that it gives the purchaser buyer protection on their transaction with the seller/lender. This extra protection is included in the cost of your purchase – so no out of pocket expense.
If your dress arrives significantly different to the seller’s/lenders description, is faulty or doesn’t arrive you can lodge a dispute with PayPal for the full purchase price plus postage costs up to $20,000 AUD per item.
This dispute must be made within 180 days of the purchase and item must have been posted with a tracking number to be eligible. If you would like to purchase a dress locally we would recommend arranging for a try on of the dress, purchase it through our website and have the seller post the dress to you to be covered.
Full details of how to lodge a claim and eligibility are available on the PayPal website: https://www.paypal.com/au/webapps/mpp/ua/useragreement-full#int_Schedule_1

How do I lodge a dispute?

If you have made contact with the seller and had no success in resolving the issue you can lodge a dispute with Paypal within 180 days from the payment date.
To open a dispute:
Sign in to your Paypal account at http://www.paypal.com.
Navigate to the Resolution Centre.
Click the Dispute a Transaction button.

Does Only Dream Dresses have an App?

This will be coming soon!

Is there a refund or cancellation policy?

If you would like to cancel the hire or purchase of your dress once the transaction has been processed, you would need to contact the Dress Owner through our message system directly to arrange this.
It is at the discretion of the Dress Owner if they allow a cancellation or refund and a cancellation fee may be charged. The fee will be determined by the Dress Owner themselves.

Extra Information Just for Hiring a Dress

How do I know that the dress is available for hire?

Only Dream Dresse’s availability calendar shows when the dress is available for booking.

When do I receive the dress?

Once a booking is made through our availability calendar this reserves the dress for a month prior to the wedding. This stops anyone hiring the dress too close to your wedding date and allows ample time for the dress to get to you.
We request that all lenders send the dress so that it arrives two weeks prior to your wedding date, so that you can arrange for the dress to be pressed etc for your special day.

Can I make alterations to the dress?

Alterations to the dress can only be done on the written approval of the dress owner. We would recommend using our messaging system to communicate with lender.

Once I received my hired dress, is there anything I need to do?

We recommend checking the dress thoroughly for any damage or stains. If anything is found please contact the dress owner immediately through our messaging system with photos of the damage.
This will avoid any disputes against the bond when the dress is returned.

What I do if I damage the dress?

Contact the dress owner through our messaging center and let them know. The stain/damage may be able to be fixed and some money maybe taken from the bond, but the dress owner will appreciate your honesty.

Why do I need to pay a bond?

As with everything you hire a bond is taken to cover any damage that may be caused whilst it is in your possession. The amount of bond will be determined on the RRP of the dress. The higher the RRP the more bond you will pay.
We suggest taking care of the dress whilst you use it so that the lender is happy to return your bond in full after the use.

Where does the bond money go after it is paid?

Only Dream Dresses holds the money in a secure account once it is paid and only employees of Only Dream Dresses has access to this account.

How long after the dress is posted back to the lender is the bond money refunded?

Once the dress is posted back to the dress owner in the provided postage bag you will need to record the tracking number through your log in page.  Once the dress owner receives the dress they will have 3 business days to have dress dry-cleaned and check for any permanent stains or damage.
They will then contact Only Dream Dresses with confirmation that the bond can be refunded. This needs to be done within 5 business days after the dress has been received.
If there are stains and/or damage it is the dress owner’s responsibility to contact you and discuss this through our message system.
Only Dream Dresses’ role in bond dispute is the holder of the bond until a dispute is finalized between a lender and dress owner, as we do not act in favour of either party.
