Planning the outfit for your wedding is a pretty exciting prospect. But can be kind of daunting as well. You want to wear one of the most important and memorable outfits of your life – but you might also be looking for something that brings out the very best version of you.
Here are some of our favourite wedding dress trends and bridal styles for 2019, including ideas for her, him and everyone.
With the welcome changes to the Marriage Act last year, more of the traditions and rules for weddings went out the door.
You can wear a stunning white dress if you want to, but you can also wear anything else you like. Some brides and grooms are not into white. Or dresses. Or anything traditional. Creativity and variety in bridal styles in 2019 are more exciting than they have ever been before.
You might be looking for a bridal outfit that perfectly matches your partner’s, or that contrasts with theirs delightfully in the way that their personality also offers the perfect opposite to yours.
You might also be looking for one wedding outfit for the whole day. Or perhaps you are excited about the increasing trend of changing into a second outfit for the reception to be more after-party ready. The sky is the limit, and more than ever, you have the freedom to wear whatever you like.
Here are some of our favourite new bridal styles for 2019.

Separates
Separates are making a continuing splash in the bridal industry, with tops and skirts becoming increasingly popular. When you have separates you uncover even more versatility in terms of style, neckline, sleeves, length and hems than with a dress.
Crop tops have made an exciting return to wedding fashion, so you may need to get a few crunches in before the big day arrives!!!
Meghan-Inspired Looks
Meghan has become the brides’ new awesome style-icon. There were so many little gorgeous touches in her outfits on her big day that you can play up with on yours. You might like the off-the-shoulder look that she chose in her wedding dress…………the stunning sexy look of her evening gown……….or the 3D embroidery that she showcased in her veil.
Many designers are following her day style with boatneck looks, clean and minimalist looks and crisp modern fabrics as well. Sheath and slip style dresses are also trending as are halters and high necks, following the Hollywood glamour of the Duchess’ second look.
Or you could just channel princesses in general, and embrace the Edwardian themed looks that are trending this coming season.
Shrugs and Capelets
We adore the whimsical look of a cape or capelet over your wedding dress, especially the lace and invisible styles that are emerging on the runways this year.
This is a touch of vintage and a contemporary look all rolled into one, and is incredibly flattering if you are a bit self-conscious about your shoulders or upper arms.
Shrugs and wraps are also having a comeback for 2019 as well, which can feel very elegant and feminine.
Jumpsuits
The jumpsuit trend is gaining momentum and we love it – it says that brides can be fun as well as sophisticated. Embrace all sorts of styles with this, from romantic and floral, to sexy lace, so sleek modern or flowy and bohemian.
You could wear an over-skirt with your jumpsuit, or pair it with a glamorous tailored jacket.
You can walk down the aisle in your jumpsuit, or mix things up and change into one for the after-party.
Short Skirts
Varying lengths for wedding dresses are also appearing everywhere, and again are a wonderfully versatile way to flatter those parts of your body that you like the best.
Minis are in, as are tea-length styles, which between the membrace all sorts of vintage styles throughout the mid 20th Century.
Romantic and Rennaissance Sleeves
This might not be a trend that suits everyone, but certainly popular this year are big romantic flowy sleeves. Gorgeously vintage and bohemian, this look can be embraced by many different kinds of brides. Think billowy fabrics with volume, embellishment and exaggeration.
Colour and Embellishment
Don’t just stick to satin and lace with your wedding dress adornments – embellishments are getting bigger and bolder! Consider sequins, metallics, feathers and even pops of vibrant colour to play around with the traditional bridal white. Play with belts, metallic make-up mixed metal hair accessories and more.
And even if you are sticking to the slightly traditional, you can steer away from white or ivory and get excited about tones of champagne, blush or even blues or rose gold.

Trends for Grooms
Whether you have one or two grooms at your wedding, the men are getting even more stylish and creative with wedding style in 2019. No longer just the bastion of the women, there is no reason why the groom can’t be the stylish centre of attention and have something perfectly tailored just for him.
Gone are the rental tuxedo trends and the concept of the groom as living in the bride’s shadow, men are finding new ways to shine on their wedding day.
Here are some of the trends we like best for grooms in 2019:
- Sharply tailored three-piecesuits
- Bright and bold colour – think way beyond black, grey and blue!
- Tweed – this can be dowdy, but is uber-cool if done well
- Slim fit looks continue in both jacket and pants, with a fitted suit favoured from head to toe.
More than anything, we love that bridal styles, sleek groom looks and wedding dress trends for 2019 seem to embrace freedom, innovation and completely being yourself. Choose what makes you feel happy and show off the best parts of yourself, and what fits in with your own unique personality.
Embrace your individual style and the beautiful things about you that make you different. Be gorgeous, be comfortable and most of all, be free!
